We decided that a guided tour would be the best in this instance because we were only in the country for a limited amount of time, and had an idea of what we wanted to experience. So we got our hotel, jumped on the computer and found a guided tour in minutes. They took us to visit the Great Wall of China, a tea shop, a jade factory, a dynasty, and we even had a fantastic Chinese lunch at a local spot!
We went in November, so it was quite cold. The first stop on our tour was the Great Wall of China. We took the gondola all the way up. The wall and stairs had a sheet of ice over it, which made it very slippery, but we managed to trek quite a bit of it and take a few photos.
When we arrived at the dynasty it was breathtaking. There were so many buildings that had such incredible detail. Both myself and my mom were in awe.
The jade factory was unlike anything we had ever experienced before. There were so many people working along the assembly line, and they seemed to flow nicely together.
The pieces that the workers hand made were incredibly beautiful. One of the pieces that my mom picked up was a 3 generation sphere, which represented the 3 generations of the family- my mom, myself, and Cooper. Oh yeah, did I mention? I was pregnant when I went to Jordan, China and Thailand. I was about 12 weeks pregnant when I returned home to Canada. Just in time for our first ultrasound! Anyways, that gift was quite special to us and still is.
The tea shop was a fun experience for both of us, but I think my mom enjoyed it a little more than I did. She’s a tea drinker and always has been! We all sat around a table and tried the different teas, while the lady explained the history of each one. My mom being the tea drinker she is, purchased a few boxes for herself and for her friends back home.
For only spending 48 hours in a country, we seen a lot and I’m so glad we decided to take the tour we did!
