A question we’re often asked is, “where did this idea to travel come from?” Our answer is, it wasn’t something that just popped into our heads one day, but a series of events that lead us to make the decision to go on a full-time family adventure.
As I’ve mentioned in previous blog posts, I always had a passion for traveling. In 2014 Mitch and I started taking week long vacations to different countries in the Caribbean.
In 2015, I decided to take a more adventurous trip to Jordan, China and Thailand. It was during this 30 day long adventure that I truly found who I was and started to realize what was important to me in my life. In the middle of the trip, we found out that we were pregnant. Surprise!
We had owned a duplex for a few years at this point, but they were two 1 bedroom apartments. We had 2 dogs, a baby on the way and only 1 bedroom. So we decided it was time to sell the duplex and buy a house.
We waited almost a year for the house that we’re living in right now as I write this. Cooper was 8 months old when we moved into it and sold our duplex. It truly is a beautiful home, and we’ve done extensive renovations to it to fit our wants, so we will honestly miss it.
I was in university to become either a social worker or a primary teacher and still am. I only have a couple classes left so I’ve decided to take it slow over the next year or so, and finish it off since I’m already so far into debt from it.
I had a home business called Custom K’s Designs. I made custom wooden signs, apparel, drink ware, etc. and that is what we used to fund our travels in the past.
Mitch was working a “9-5” as a gold miner, working 10 hour shifts. Cooper was about a year and a half when I finally found a way to make money online.
Our business took off, and we continued to grow it. We have about 4 streams of income as I write this blog post, but are looking to create more. The reason for this is to make sure that we’re as safe as possible, and can make it if one were to stop generating money. When we found out that we could make a full living online, that is when everything changed.
When we realized that we could make a full-time income online, we started to assess our relationship, our values, and our lifestyle. We realized as a family that we could be happier.
Both Mitch and I enjoy seeing new sights, learning about people of different cultures and lifestyles, and don’t love to sit still.
Of course we are and always will be extremely grateful for the life we have been able to live up until this point, but we came to the conclusion that we wanted to close this chapter for now, and go on a family adventure.
We’ve become so accustomed to the rat race. It’s easy to get lost in daily tasks. From cleaning up toys, to going to Tim Hortons to get an iced-cap every morning, to spending time worrying about bills. We didn’t realize that we were losing ourselves in these daily tasks, until we started to truly assess our lives.
Of course we ask ourselves if we’re completely nuts, and if we’re making the right decision.
But I think we’ve both realized that this new chapter of our lives is going to be incredibly fulfilling, and will teach all three of us more than we can imagine.
