We stayed at the Lifestyles Tropical Resort in Puerto Plata, Dominican Republic. We can both say that we thoroughly enjoyed our entire stay. Although it is a time-share resort, and they will ask you to go on a tour in hopes that you’ll buy, it had so many features that made the 2 hour long tour worth it. Plus seeing the incredibly beautiful villa’s didn’t hurt.
We went to this resort pre-kiddo, and would definitely return with a kiddo in tow!
The food was so good that we were constantly eating. They even had bacon, which meant Mitch was in absolute heaven! If I’m remembering correctly there was always somewhere to eat- which a lot of all inclusive resorts don’t have. They typically have set times for food and one place that you can (sometimes) get a fry or hamburger. This resort had food all the time! Which is especially great for kids. When you’re on vacation, you don’t need hangry kids.
The rooms were nice, and clean! A lot of the photos of the rooms you see on TripAdvisor are the time-share rooms. If you’re not going on a time-share, your room will be the most bare and simple rooms you see on the website. We were surprised when we didn’t get a gorgeous room, but honestly we don’t spend that much time in the room, so it didn’t break our vacation.
One thing to keep in mind is that some parts of the resort are VIP only, which means if you don’t purchase the VIP (time share package), then you can’t go there. They have some VIP only pools, alcohol, restaurants, and amenities.
There was always something going on at this resort, and the fact that we met people who we connected with, made it that much better. There are shows every night- very common with all-inclusive resorts. We went to the ocean casino for a free burlesque type show (you get to go if you do the time-share tour. Win in my eyes), an after party which was spectacular, and the casino. Although we didn’t win anything at the casino, it was a fun night!
The beach was quite rocky at this resort, and there are a lot of vendors who try to sell tours and products. So we spent most of our time on the beach beds or in the pools. The beach beds that overlook the ocean are absolutely amazing. The pools were warm and big, and there are mini jacuzzi-like pools overlooking the ocean as well.
We really enjoyed our time at this resort, and would head back there with our little one.
